The University of Kashmir, established in 1948 following the bifurcation of the original Jammu and Kashmir University into two separate institutions under the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act 1969, is a premier state university situated on the western side of the Dal Lake in Hazratbal, Srinagar. Spread across three adjacent campuses in Srinagar—Hazratbal (Amar Singh Chhbagh), Naseem Bagh, and Mirza Bagh—alongside satellite campuses in Anantnag (South Campus), Baramulla (North Campus), and Kupwara, the university provides education across Arts, Social Sciences, Physical & Numerical Sciences, Life Sciences, Law, Business & Management Studies, Education, Medicine, Engineering, and Technology. It hosts over 40 academic departments, various research centres, and the Allama Iqbal Library, serving as the central academic and research hub of the Kashmir valley.
