Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER), formerly known as Sri Ramachandra University, was founded in 1985 by the Sri Ramachandra Educational and Health Trust under the visionary leadership of Late Shri N. P. V. Ramasamy Udayar. The institution was declared a Deemed-to-be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, in September 1994 and has been granted Category-I University status by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Located in Porur, Chennai, SRIHER has evolved into a comprehensive, unitary health sciences and multidisciplinary academic complex comprising 12 constituent faculties and colleges: Faculty of Medicine (Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute), Dental Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Allied Health Sciences, Management Studies, Biomedical Sciences & Technology, Public Health, Sports & Exercise Sciences, Clinical Research, and Engineering & Technology. The university operates a quaternary-care multi-speciality teaching hospital, Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre (SRMC), with over 1,500 beds, and hosts world-class research infrastructure including the Central Research Facility (CRF), a WHO Collaborating Centre for Occupational Health, an ICMR Centre for Advanced Research, and the BIRAC-supported BioNEST Bioincubator.
