Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA) was founded in 1984 as Shanmugha Engineering College by Sri S. Ramachandra Iyer. In 2001, it was conferred Deemed-to-be-University status under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, becoming the first institution in Tamil Nadu to receive deemed university status. Headquartered at Tirumalaisamudram in Thanjavur, with an off-campus constituent centre named the Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre (SRC) in Kumbakonam, SASTRA offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes across Engineering, Science, Management, Law, Humanities, and Education.
