Aligarh Muslim University, Uttar Pradesh

Aligarh Muslim University is a public central university and an Institution of National Importance located in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. The university evolved from the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College established by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan in 1877 and became AMU in 1920. It has a large residential campus and offers programmes across traditional, professional, medical, engineering, science, humanities and social-science disciplines. AMU's official facts page states that it offers more than 300 courses and has a campus of approximately 467.6 hectares (1,155 acres).
